Court Ruling on Bowman vs. Monsanto Makes Further Case for GE Labeling
Washington, D.C. (May 13th, 2013) – Today, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of Monsanto in the Bowman vs. Monsanto case, marking a disappointing loss for farmers and serving as a reminder of the need for GE labeling.
The case, which was argued in front of the Supreme Court in February of this year, debated patent infringement on Monsanto’s genetically engineered soybean crop.
“Today’s ruling should serve as a reminder that Americans still don’t know whether they’re feeding their families food made with GE ingredients – unlike consumers in 64 other natons,” said Scott Faber, Executive Director of Just Label It. “Americans deserve the right to know what we’re eating and feeding our families.”
The Supreme Court ruling came after a decision by the USDA last week to extend the review of “Enlist”, a herbicide-resistant corn produced by both Monsanto and Dow, after increased concern from consumers and environmental groups.
