Just Label It Endorses “Yes on Prop 37 – California Right to Know”

Washington, D.C. – (September 12, 2012) –  Just Label It,  (JLI) the national coalition for mandatory federal labeling of genetically engineered (GE) foods, today announced its formal endorsement of “Yes on Prop 37- California Right to Know”, the ballot initiative that will give California voters the chance to vote for mandatory labeling of GE foods this fall.

“Just Label It stands shoulder to shoulder with the people of California who are working for genetically engineered food labeling,” said Gary Hirshberg, chairman, Just Label It.  “Every American deserves the right to know what is in the food we eat and feed our families.  All of us should show our support by joining ‘Yes on Prop 37- California Right to Know.’”

Hirshberg noted that JLI supports Prop 37 because it is working to expand the right to know for a key segment of the U.S. population, increases the dialogue on this vitally important food issue, and is an important step toward what must ultimately be a national policy.

Explained David Bancroft, director, Just Label It, “ Just Label It and ‘Yes on Prop 37 – California Right to Know’ are complementary efforts working to break down the barriers facing GE foods labeling at the state and federal levels. JLI, whose efforts are focused on the federal level, supports GE foods labeling efforts in the states because they are a step on the path towards finding a solution that ultimately will have to be made on the national level.”
