It’s Time to Demand GMO Labeling
Support of labeling foods with genetically engineered ingredients continues to grow. Food policy consultant and Civil Eats co-founder Naomi Starkman wrote about the growing demand for transparency in food labeling in today’s ZesterDaily.com.
Starkman describes the growth of GMO food transparency initiatives, including the Just Label It Campaign, as well as consumer choice and food safety rights associated with GMO labeling. As the safety of GMOs is currently uncertain, Starkman advises consumers to support the labeling of GMO foods and our consumer rights.
As Starkman states:
“It’s been two months since a broad-based coalition of 20 organizations filed a petition with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to require mandatory labeling of genetically engineered foods, also known as genetically modified organisms, or GMOs. The petition, which asks the FDA to give consumers the right to know what is in our food, was supported by more than 400 businesses and organizations dedicated to food safety and consumer rights.”
